Consultant Radiologist with interest in Breast/Head and Neck Imaging

We are delighted to invite applications for a Consultant Head and Neck Radiologist to join an existing team of Consultant Breast Radiologists at University Hospitals of Leicester.

This is a new post. The post holder will be expected to work closely in the team with the existing H& N and neuro-radiologists to support the continuing development of imaging within UHL as a whole. The post holder will join the existing on call rota of 1 in 9 delivering acute neuro imaging to UHL.

The appointment will be whole time. Any consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work whole time, will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake programmed activities in Head and neck Radiology opportunities for development of the existing service exist and will be supported where they reflect and support the needs of the local population and the development plans of the trust.
  • To help lead the provision of Head and Neck Oncology Imaging.
  • To support the provision of imaging in stroke, ophthalmology and endocrine specialties.
  • To support emergency neuroradiology imaging across UHL as part of the Inpatient Imaging Hub
  • Fluoroscopy including sialography
  • Supervise junior medical staff
  • To lead/take part in multi-disciplinary team meetings.
  • To contribute to the training of the Specialist Registrars on the East Midland Deanery (South) radiology training scheme.
  • To supervise and train skill-mix radiographers, reporting radiographers, sonographers and non-medical staff in their present and anticipated roles.
  • To support and participate in audit, research, teaching and administration.
  • To take part in the neuroradiology on-call rota within UHL and assist in the provision of weekend radiological support for the Imaging and Medical Physics CBU.
About us

This is a post within the Imaging Service, Clinical Support and Imaging, Clinical Management group, based at Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital.

The post holder will join a team of Neuroradiology and Head & Neck Radiologists and will work closely with the Business Service General Radiologists particularly in Emergency Radiology (ER).

To cover for colleagues\' annual leave and other authorised absences To participate in service development and business planning in collaboration with the other Consultants in the department, the CMG and local GPs and commissioners within the local CCGs Responsibility for carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education activity, locally and nationally Participating in medical audit, the Trusts Clinical Governance processes and in CPD CPD time is provided in job plans and attendance at audit and other governance meetings is mandatory To work in line with GMC Good Medical Practice To respond in a timely fashion to legitimate requests from Trust officers this might include investigations of incidents or complaints. To participate in teaching and training of junior staff and other clinical staff groups The post-holder will be expected to undertake the Trust Corporate and Directorate specificInduction and competency Programmes appropriate to role.

To maintain their continuing professional development (CPD) to be able to successfully revalidate. As per the Trust requirement the successful candidate will be required to have an annual appraisal and attend / keep fully up to date with statutory and mandatory training as stipulated.

  • Full GMC Registration
  • Fully Accredited for Higher Specialist Training or will be eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date

  • Higher degree eg MSc, MD or equivalent

  • Fully trained in Neuroradiology
