Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Paediatric Oncologist based at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
This is an 8 sessions consultant post created to meet the requirements of a Principal Treatment Centre.
The post will enhance the local service and support the Children\'s Hospital for Wales\' contribution to a
Managed Service Network for children and young people with cancer in south, mid and west Wales. The
post holder will work with the current paediatric oncologists and paediatric haematologists to deliver age
appropriate specialist oncology care within a paediatric setting.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be part of the specialist consultant oncology team, providing care for children and young people with paediatric solid tumours, including central nervous system tumours, and supporting the Late Effects service. The leukaemia service and benign haematology service are delivered by the paediatric haematologists, with lymphomas divided between the two halves of the service. The combined malignant service is supported by clinical nurse specialists, advanced nurse practitioners and a well established community-based nursing team delivering chemotherapy at home. Shared care centres in Carmarthen and Swansea deliver chemotherapy in the outpatient setting and inpatient-based febrile neutropenia management.
