Job Description


This is an exciting opportunity to take on an established post which has become vacant owing to the post-holder moving elsewhere.

This is a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) caring for the most unwell psychiatric patients. The post holder will be responsible for providing clinical care to the 8 inpatients and medical leadership to the Chaucer ward team, as well as supporting and contributing to the management and development of the ward functioning.

This work involves reviewing each patient weekly and very unwell patients more often. There is a seclusion suite on Chaucer ward and secluded patients require daily reviews

Development of the PICU will include creating links to the local prison services to facilitate prison assessments and transfers when required
Main duties of the job

In this post you will be expected to :-

  • Undertake assessments of admissions to the service
  • Diagnosis of patients under care of ward
  • Formulate management plans in complex presentations.
  • Provide management in treatment resistant and complex presentations
  • Assessment and management of risk including of vulnerability, suicide risk, risks to health and safety and risk of harm to others.
  • Senior seclusion reviews
  • Preparation of Mental Health Review Tribunal and Managers\' Hearings reports and attendance at subsequent hearings.
  • Work in a collaborative way with multidisciplinary teams including external partners.
  • Work in partnership with psychiatrists from partner providers such as Forensic and Rehabilitation Psychiatrists.
  • Develop and support assessments in local prisons

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
