We are looking for an enthusiastic, flexible and forward thinking individual to join our very friendly, creative and dynamic Public Health Directorate up in the northerly most part of the UK. We are committed to improving health, reducing the health inequity within our population and reducing preventable differences in health outcomes.We envisage that the successful candidate will have a diverse portfolio leading on high priority areas of population health work, engaging with partners both within and outwith Shetland. This is likely to include leading our health protection and health improvement functions but there is scope to identify other areas of responsibility by mutual agreement with the Director of Public Health, for example screening, immunisation programmes, business continuity and resilience, health intelligence, healthcare public health, alcohol and drugs, health inequalities, children, mental health and wellbeing etc.The postholder will deputise for the Director of Public Health and support the Directorate with specialist public health training and expert advice on all public health matters. There is a 2nd on call commitment , which a shared rota across the three Scottish Islands Health Boards (Orkney, Shetland and Western Isles) that can be done remotely, and is supported by first on call teams based in the individual islands board areas.Ideally the postholder would be based in Shetland but adopt a hybrid working approach as is the norm for the Directorate.
