Women's Health Division Applications are invited to apply for one substantive Consultant post to join the Women Health Division at Royal London Hospital. We are looking for dynamic individuals with the drive and enthusiasm to achieve service development and transformation, as we strive to provide outstanding, cutting-edge care to women of East London and beyond.Consultant in Obstetrics with special interest in Maternal & Fetal MedicineThe Royal London Hospital is one of the largest and busiest hospitals in the UK, providing services to more than half a million patients each year. With a turnover of xc2xa31.4 billion and a Workforce of around 24,000, Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain's leading healthcare providers. The Royal London Women's Health is the tertiary referral centre for maternal and fetal medicine services within Barts Health NHS Trust and beyond and is a recognised RCOG sub-specialist training centre in Maternal and Fetal Medicine. The Maternal Medicine Centre provides specialist multidisciplinary clinics for women with medical conditions who are pregnant, including specialist haematology, rheumatology, cardiology, renal, diabetes and neurology clinics. The Royal London Hospital is the maternal medicine hub for the NEL maternal medicine network.Main duties of the jobThe Fetal Medicine Centre gets tertiary referrals from as far as Harlow and Basildon. It provide experts counselling and management of complex fetal abnormalities including invasive prenatal diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The site is supported by a 41-cot, level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) which also supports the regional neonatal surgical unit. In 2019, the Gynaecology department had 1265 Emergency Admissions (including 311 EGU procedures). We had 11033 OP Appts (including 3864 rapid access EGU appointments) and 968 Elective Surgical procedures. We have an excellent early pregnancy unit and also offer Manual Vacuum aspiration for miscarriages. Besides performing all minimally access procedures and open gynaecology surgery for benign gynaecology, since 2015 we have been awarded the status of an accredited Endometriosis centre (accreditation renewed annually for complex, deep endometriosis) and we get tertiary referrals from within and outside NE London.This is an exciting time to join the team at Royal London Hospital who are renowned for their cutting edge innovative services, including personalised care. The post holders will be expected to work closely with the obstetrics and gynaecology leadership team delivering national and local initiatives, in order to deliver outstanding care to the women of Tower Hamlets and beyond. Education
Essential

  • Full GMC registration
  • MRCOG or equivalent qualification
  • RCOG Sub-specialty training in Maternal Fetal Medicine
  • Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within six months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee.
Desirable
  • FMF Diploma in Fetal Medicine
  • Post-graduate degree (MD or PhD)
  • Diploma or MSc in Clinical Genetics
Experience
Essential
  • Clinical training and experience in a tertiary Maternal & Fetal Medicine Unit
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Experience in high-risk Obstetrics
Desirable
  • Track record in QI, training and supervision
  • Track record in service development
  • Experience in PMRT/ATTAIN/ Bereavement / GAP & Grow
  • Handling complaints / writing SI reports
Skills
Essential
  • Competences in complex diagnostic invasive procedures
  • Ability to manage complex maternal medicine cases, including multi-disciplinary liaison
  • Ability to manage complex fetal medicine cases, including multi-disciplinary liaison
Desirable
  • Competences in complex therapeutic invasive procedures (e.g., intrauterine transfusions, shunts, endoscopic procedures)
