Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Haematologist with Special Interest in Haemostasis and Thrombosis

The inherited bleeding disorder service provides care for adults and children with bleeding disorders living in South, Mid and West Wales. The service looks after 90 people with severe haemophilia. The comprehensive care centre is based in Cardiff but patients can access services at haemophilia centres in Cardiff, Swansea and Abergavenny. The aim is to deliver a seamless service at all sites, with input from the most relevant staff member. There is regular outreach to each centre as well as MDT meetings. The service has an active trials programme, facilitated by 3 research nurses and a trials coordinator, who also deliver trials in thrombosis/anticoagulation and ITP.

Immune thrombocytopenia is a secondary care service for Cardiff and Vale and delivers inpatient, outpatient, perioperative and pregnancy management of patients with ITP. The Cardiff Haemophilia Centre nurses provide CNS support for patients, who are able to access the whole IBD MDT - psychology, social work and physiotherapy.

Consultative haematology - thrombosis, anticoagulation - Ward based consultations, e-advice and Outpatient clinics for thrombosis and haemostasis.

Main duties of the job

To provide with Consultant colleagues (as appropriate) a service in the speciality to the hospitals so designated, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness and promotion of health.

To have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge (as appropriate) in liaison with Consultant colleagues and for the proper functioning of the department in line with the Operational Policy and Strategic Plan (as amended from time to time).

To be responsible for the professional supervision and management of junior medical / dental staff. If appropriate the post holder will be named in the contracts of junior staff as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as an initial source of advice to such doctors regarding their careers.

To participate in and contribute to Clinical Audit in line with the Health Board\'s policy on the implementation of Clinical Governance.

The successful candidate will participate in the on-call rota to cover University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough for Haemostasis and Thrombosis. The on-call commitment is currently 1 in 4 but is subject to change according to service need and current workforce provision.

  • Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
  • On Specialist Register for specialty / Specialty Registrar with CCT due within six months of interview date
  • Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to UK CCT.
  • FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
Experience

  • Experience in managing patients with Haemostasis & Thrombosis
  • Experience as a H& T fellow, clinical trial fellow or other specialist experience in this area of practice
