It is an exciting time to join the University Hospitals Dorset as there are several new developments including the creation of a new state-of-the-art clinical laboratory - the One Dorset Pathology (ODP) hub and future alignment with laboratories within the Southern Counties Pathology Network. The transformation of the hospitals in the region has already seen a new LIMS installation across the networked sites in Dorset and standardised equipment procurement. With this will come the need for reconfiguration of pathology services to which you will have to opportunity to contribute.The candidate will be joining a One Dorset Pathology (ODP) Clinical Biochemistry team comprising of one medical consultant, one consultant clinical lead clinical scientist, two principal clinical scientists and one senior clinical scientist. The post holder will be expected to help provide, and develop as necessary, a comprehensive Clinical Biochemistry laboratory for ODP.Base location: Royal Bournemouth HospitalMain duties of the jobAs specialist clinical biochemistry lead you will support and further develop the specialist chemistry department, in keeping with the needs and resources of the service and those of other scientists. • Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath)
• Registration as a Clinical Scientist in Biochemistry with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

• Additional appropriate postgraduate qualification eg PhD, MSc, MRSC, CChem
• Leadership and training experience

ExperienceEssential

• To have completed a minimum of 5 years in post as a Registered Clinical Scientist of which 2 years should have been at advanced practitioner level.
• Experience of managing staff in a clinical laboratory environment

• A broad knowledge of human biochemistry and chemistry, including metabolic processes, physiology and pharmacology and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to clinical situations
• A good knowledge of analytical methods, quality assurance and problem-solving
• Expertise or experience in a number of analytical techniques
• A working knowledge of methodology and equipment used in the laboratory
• A strong working knowledge of computers and software
• Understands the purpose and relevance of research and audit
• Evidence of an enquiring mind
• Able to conduct Research and Development activities
