The Role
We're looking for a
Construction Designer
to join our collaborative and mission-driven team. This is a hands-on, client-facing role for someone with solid experience in construction design--particularly in energy retrofit and low-carbon building projects--who is confident working independently while contributing to a multidisciplinary team.
You'll take ownership of design deliverables from concept to implementation, helping bring energy efficiency strategies to life through practical, compliant, and cost-effective designs.
Key Responsibilities
Produce detailed technical drawings, specifications, and design packs for energy retrofit and efficiency schemes, in line with PAS 2035 and current UK building regulations.
Lead design elements across multiple projects, ensuring technical accuracy and timely delivery.
Engage directly with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to present and explain design solutions, gather requirements, and provide ongoing design support.
Collaborate with Retrofit Coordinators, energy assessors, project managers, and installation teams to ensure design intent is understood and delivered on site.
Contribute to site surveys and inspections to inform and validate design proposals.
Stay informed on emerging low-carbon technologies, materials, and best practices in sustainable construction.
About You
Essential
Degree (or equivalent experience) in Architectural Technology, Construction Design, Architecture, or a related field.
4+ years' experience in a construction design role, ideally with a focus on energy efficiency or retrofit.
Strong working knowledge of Revit software to create and modify detailed 3D models and technical drawings.
Strong working knowledge of CAD software
Conduct design analysis and performance evaluations in alignment with PAS2035 standards for retrofit design.
A good understanding of BIM
Ability to produce high-quality technical drawings.
A good understanding of insulation types, heating systems, and renewable energy solutions.
Familiarity with UK Building Regulations, PAS 2035, and sustainable construction principles.
Excellent communication and client engagement skills--you're comfortable leading meetings and presenting your work.
Highly organised and capable of managing your workload across multiple projects.
A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
Desirable
Experience in domestic retrofit or social housing projects.
Retrofit Designer or Retrofit Coordinator qualification (or willingness to gain certification).
Working knowledge of SAP, PHPP, or other energy modelling tools.
Strong proficiency in Revit, with a primary focus on transitioning to BIM and developing 3D details.
