Salary:

The starting salary is 47,060, which includes allowances totalling 2,928.


The salary is broken down as 44,132 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale 52,652. Plus, a location allowance of 1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of 1,000.

About Fleet Services




The police vehicle fleet is an important physical asset. It enables officers and staff to do their job, carries key equipment required, and provides safe transportation for the public / prisoners.


The role of Fleet Services is to keep the Met mobile, ensuring we can detect, respond to, and prevent crime whilst building public trust and confidence. The complex needs of modern policing requires a wide range of vehicle types. We operate a fleet of over 5,200 assets on the road and river, as well as over 1,000 pedal cycles. London is the most complex and diverse city in the UK, and our fleet is reflective of that. We currently have over 220 different types of vehicles supporting all operational commands including armed response vehicles, HGVs, patrol cars, motorbikes and pedal cycles.


Customers can be broadly grouped into three strategic pillars - Frontline Policing, Met Ops & Performance, and Counter Terrorism / Specialist Operations. Collectively this covers pan London requirements as well as national CT responsibilities.


The overall fleet requirements and volumes are owned and governed by operational leaders at the Strategic Fleet Board. Operational teams are accountable for the volume of fleet required to undertake their roles, and Fleet Services support and enable effective decision making through provision of information and technical / industry knowledge.

Key responsibilities



Team Management - manage a team consisting of Compliance Coordinators & Office Management resources and Administrator resources, ensuring that they are clear on their roles and working to a high standard. Provide guidance and advice so that they can perform the role to the best of their ability. Support the wider team to ensure that leave, training and sickness is managed appropriately. Where required, collate overtime information, gain approval and send for processing Compliance regime - Design and implement a compliance regime for use across all workshops, ensuring that we can assess compliance to all legal / regulation / policy as well as best practice in the management of workshops and workshop equipment. Health & Safety - ensure sites are compliant with Health & Safety requirements. Work with PSD to ensure that H&S inspections are carried out to the right standard - be responsible for carrying out H&S inspections regularly and then work with site leads on changes required Workshop equipment - ensure clear policies / processes are in place for how workshop equipment should be managed on sites. Ensure all sites are aware of their local responsibilities and ensure calibration of workshop diagnostic equipment and all other certificated plant is conducted effectively. Ensure calibration inspections are carried out every 6 to 12 months. File certificates appropriately. Bring any failures to management attention. Relay back issues to those who need to know. Site compliance - coordinate compliance of all sites with any MPS and wider policy / legislation / guidance. Develop and maintain a clear tracker for easy reference to confirm compliance is in place and when any next reviews are scheduled Site knowledge / understanding - develop strong knowledge and understanding about all sites that Fleet Services works in, including the HQ site, Contact Centre, and workshop sites. Site material - ensure all sites that Fleet Services works in have all site material in place, both in printed form at sites (if absolutely necessary), and in electronic form in a clearly designed and set out document management area. This includes site plans, site based contracts, IT infrastructure designs / plans, Asset Lists, Evacuation Plans, Fire Alarm Processes, Building Incident Processes, and H&S Plans Site support - Ensuring the safe storage of all vehicles on sites following the laid out security procedures at all times. Support any inspections required on site e.g. inspecting lifts. Liaise with contractors on site to fix any issues. Support building maintenance and working closely with PSD and their contractors to resolve any site issues. Attend regular meetings with PSD to discuss site performance. Site incidents / issues - ensure any issues at sites are reported in the right way (this should be done by local reps but needs to be reviewed to ensure it is correct). Where issues have been raised, monitor actions being taken by PSD and their suppliers, and engage with them regularly to ensure fixes are applied. Ensure local resources can support contractors on site to fix issues as required. Ensure any near misses and incidents at sites are recorded fully and are investigated in the right way. Work with leadership teams on each site in order to take forward any necessary changes whether that be documentation on site, training / briefings for staff, process change, or technology change Service and Maintenance improvements - facilitate the delivery of service enhancements, acting as a champion for improvements. Regularly review processes and ensure that these are working as effectively as possible. Identify trends and make recommendations to management Requisitions and Invoices - support the overall operation with review of requisitions / invoices, and making sure these get to the appropriate team for processing. Stores / Parts team - where required, provide support for the Stores / Parts teams, for instance raising requisitions / Purchase Orders, ordering parts for the workshops, receiving all deliveries and goods receipting. Performance management - undertake performance management processes for staff managed, including monthly meetings, quarterly performance reviews, and completion of all MPS system requirements Reception / Office management - Support the operations of the receptions / office teams across sites. Review the administration processes in the workshops, including control of all files and ensuring that these are reviewed at least annually. MPS Systems - Ensure data / information is recorded correctly, highlight any errors in the core data and work with other teams to solve not only the current errors but also processes / ways of working to ensure they do not happen again Reports - produce various management information / reports to help show what is required on the fleet, any areas not delivering in line with plans, and potential improvements Performance management - Line management responsibility for a set number of individuals. Undertake performance management of all service areas to ensure processes are working effectively; identify, analyse and take action on issues and implement review points to improve performance when appropriate. Identify failure demand and signs of process waste and implement new processes to support continuous improvement Individual training / development - ensure that individuals across the team have clear development plans in place and support individuals to identify, book, prepare for and attend training.
