P/T Female Personal Assistant support worker / Driver
to support a Lady in Ochiltree
5 hours - one day per week, which will be a Fri. Employer willing to negotiate start and stop time.
Also required to assist covering other staff Annual Leave
Salary
Living wage rate - 12.60 per hour
Job Purpose
To work closely and flexibly with a Lady who has MS to ensure she is appropriately supported with her day to day needs, including assisting with personal care and household tasks and to participate in a full range of opportunities in her life and to continue to develop and follow her hobbies and interests.
She goes to physio on Thursdays at Cumnock hospital and part of the role when covering for staff hols, is to drive her to her appointments and support her in and out of the car.
On a Tues she goes to Ochiltree Hub fitness class, again this will be part of the role, if you are covering for staff A/L.
Employer
You will be employed by the family, who will be assisted to administer payroll and undertake the necessary employment support responsibilities by a relevant support organisation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
You will be responsible for supporting the lady in the mornings with personal care tasks and to engage in all aspects of community life and activities as directed by her and her family.
Being flexible is a key component to this job and you will be guided by the her and her husband about the particular tasks and activities she requires help with and wants to participate in at particular times and you are expected to support her choices.
You may be required to work in the evening on occasions and at the weekends to support her needs.
You may at times be required to provide companionship in her own home.
Training
The lady uses a manual and electric wheelchair, she transfers using a hoist and stand aid, therefore experience of moving and handling and an
up to date certificate is required.
Qualifications
Demonstrable experience of supporting people to fulfil their potential and have active lives.
Up to date Moving and Handling certificate
Clean Drivers licence
An understanding of how to support and facilitate in a way that empowers the person.
Good interpersonal skills and values reflecting social inclusion.
Excellent and effective communication skills.
Excellent listening skills.
Good organisational skills.
Understands the crucial role that family carers play and the value of their contribution.
Deal breaker
Must have working knowledge of good person-centred practice.
Experience
Can draw on lived experience of positively supporting someone as a peer or similar.
Can engage effectively and work in partnership with others.
Personal Qualities
She is looking to recruit someone with some similar interests to herself.
She is looking for someone with a good sense of humour, down to earth, likes a good blether and a bit of banter but is also a good listener.
You must have a full clean UK driving licence and be able to drive a manual car .
You must be physically fit as there is the need to lift her manual wheelchair and bags in and out of the car.
You must have a good sense of humour.
