Background

We are seeking to appoint a Communications Officer to cover an 18 month secondment. You will work with us to deliver effective communications to external and internal stakeholders around the University\xe2\x80\x99s key strategic priorities. The Communications and Events Team within the Department of Marketing & External Relations, works across the University to develop, among other things, marketing materials, events, publications, media relations and a web presence to support its activities.

Responsibilities

Using the full range of communications channels, you will deliver key communications to external and internal audiences. You will produce articles, features and news stories that reflect the people and activities that contribute to City\xe2\x80\x99s success, particularly our students, for use in a wide range of communication channels, including online, digital and print channels. These stories will support City\xe2\x80\x99s key strategic priorities around Employability, Student Experience, Research and Enterprise, EDI issues, Sustainability, Rankings and our central London location. You will source, pitch and place positive stories about City within the higher education sector and local media. You will support the PR and Communications Manager and Head of Communications and Events with issues and crisis management, including media monitoring and reporting, responding to media enquiries and drafting statements.

Person Specification

You will have a relevant PR or Journalism qualification, as well as a solid understanding of the higher education sector and/or demonstrable interest in areas covered by City\xe2\x80\x99s key strategic priorities. With an instinctive news sense, and excellent writing skills, you will have experience working in a professional communications role, or as a Journalist, in a pressurised environment, working to tight deadlines.
