We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Thurrock to assist with the appointment of a Communications Officer, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.Rate of Pay: xc2xa317.64 - xc2xa323.13 per HourSummary:This is an exciting opportunity to join Thurrock Councils Communications Team during a period of transformation as part of the A Fresh Start for Thurrock corporate plan. The Communications Officer will play a key role in delivering strategic communications, ensuring proactive engagement with internal and external audiences, and managing the Councils media relations. The ideal candidate will have local government communications experience, a strong writing ability, and the skills to work in a fast-paced political environment.Responsibilities:

  • Communication Strategy & Messaging: Support the development and implementation of Thurrock Councils Communication Strategy. Deliver clear and effective messaging across all platforms, ensuring consistency and adherence to corporate identity standards.
  • Campaigns & Marketing: Develop and manage targeted communication campaigns, incorporating digital and social media strategies to enhance community engagement. Identify innovative approaches for maximizing audience reach.
  • Media & Public Relations: Manage relationships with the media, respond to press inquiries, draft media releases, and support the delivery of press conferences and briefings. Provide crisis communication support when necessary.
  • Digital & Social Media Engagement: Leverage digital platforms to promote stories, engage residents, and enhance Thurrocks public image. Ensure best practices in social media communication and audience interaction.
  • Stakeholder & Community Engagement: Work collaboratively with council departments, partners, and local stakeholders to support initiatives that enhance Thurrocks community engagement and reputation.
Qualifications:
  • Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or Journalism (desirable).
Experience:
  • Experience in media liaison, PR, marketing, campaigns, or internal communications.
  • Strong knowledge of digital communication techniques, social media, and marketing strategies.
  • Experience working in a local government or public sector communications role.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to translate complex messages into engaging content.
