Communications Lead

We are seeking a Communications Lead for a 12 month maternity cover.

The successful candidate will be an experienced communications professional with demonstrable experience of delivering a range of communications activities to target audiences, in order to meet strategic objectives.

Position: Communications Lead

Location: Oxford/Hybrid (remote working available)

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week (5 days a week)

Salary: \xc2\xa338,000 - \xc2\xa341,000

Contract: 12-month maternity cover

Benefits: 3.5% - 5% pension, enhanced parental leave pay, cycle scheme, flexible working arrangements and 33 days of annual leave (FTE), Employee Assistance Programme.

About the Role

The Communications Lead will help to make the case for public engagement with climate change, maximising the reach and impact of the charity\xe2\x80\x99s work with target audiences, and raising the profile of the organisation.

You will be responsible, with support from the Leadership team, for developing and delivering a new communications strategy aligned with the new organisational strategy. Working strategically with the Leadership team, you will line manage the Communications Coordinator, collaborate with other teams and liaise with a range of external stakeholders.

About You

You will have the ability to understand why the work is important and how to strategically communicate it in clear, compelling, creative and impactful ways.

You will be able to represent the organisation at a strategic level; a commitment to producing high quality work; the flexibility to respond to changing circumstances and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment; and excellent attention to detail.

You will have the ability to:

  • Plan a communications calendar and activities
  • Identify media opportunities, write compelling articles, press releases and comments for the media, respond to press enquiries
  • Generate ideas with project teams and think outside the box when designing communications activities
  • Champion, protect and develop our brand in a way that is aligned with our values and organisational strategy
  • Public speak and network
  • Assess, learn from and report on projects
  • Understand our audiences and how to best reach them
  • Support the organisation in selling its services to clients e.g. via marketing materials
  • Line management and people development skills, or a willingness to learn

About the Organisation

The organisation is passionate about widening and deepening public engagement with climate change and through research, practical guides and consultancy services, helps organisations engage diverse audiences beyond the usual suspects. They focus on building and sustaining cross-societal support for climate action, overcoming political polarisation, and turning concern into action and have nearly two decades of experience working with a range of international partners including government, international bodies, media and charities.

The organisation was founded in 2004 as the first British organisation to focus exclusively on public engagement with climate change, and is proud of the impact it has had.
