We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Commissioner to join Southampton City Council's (SCC) Children's commissioning team.

About the team:



You will be joining a new commissioning team within the Council to deliver transformational change and service improvement for the benefit of our residents. The Children's Commissioning team sits within Southampton's Children and Learning Service. Children's Services have been on an exciting and rapid improvement journey. In 2023 children's Services were assessed by Ofsted to be Good in all areas, with Outstanding Leadership, after many challenging years. This role offers the opportunity to be at the forefront of our ongoing transformation journey and provides significant opportunities for professional development within a supportive and collaborative culture.


About the role:



The Commissioner role will have a broad and varied portfolio. This will include designing and commissioning services such as for children with SEND, children in care/care leavers, youth provision, prevention and early intervention and public health nursing.



You will play a key role in transforming commissioned services to improve outcomes for Southampton residents. The role will be responsible for leading on specific projects and strategy, ensuring fit with local need, regional and national programmes and actively seeking out opportunities and new ways of working which further the organisation's aims and objectives.

About you

:



We are looking for a highly motivated, creative individual, with a proven track record of service redesign and commissioning experience, excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to maintain a substantial and varied workload. Key skills will include:


Excellent project management skills Experience of producing strategies and/or policies Negotiation skills Ability to write clearly and concisely, producing reports and business cases Excellent presentation skills Good analytical skills, able to assimilate, interpret and present complex information from a range of varied sources (sometimes conflicting), both quantitative (financial, activity) and qualitative
