They also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world\xe2\x80\x99s leading international bank.
Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers.
Enterprise Technology is the Technology organisation responsible for the design, build and ongoing maintenance of the systems owned by the Group Functions (Risk, Compliance, Finance, Core Banking, Corporate Functions and Deputy COO). The organisation consists of over 8,000 people working in collaboration across 14 countries, to support over 3,000 applications

As a Principal Engineer you will be comfortable spending 80% of your time coding, providing thought leadership and be a role model to the wider teams. You will experiment and research innovative ways of solving difficult technical problems.

The role specifically sits within the Colleague Experience IT team. This function supports services including HR, Legal, Procurement, Corporate Services, Communications and Branding, Audit, Chief Controls Office, Company Secretary and more.
Colleague Experience IT is a function within Enterprise Technology to supports HSBC in being more customer and colleague centric, driving more shared, common platforms and designing optimized processes covering the full end to end journey. The landscape is unique with the combination of diverse business functions supported and the variety of architecture and service models. Many services are underpinned by SaaS services with some of the world\xe2\x80\x99s largest technology vendors (Incl. Oracle, SAP Success Factors, Service Now, Appian, Google, Microsoft) plus many more niche vendors (Incl. Degreed, Computershare, Gloat, Beezy, Anaplan, Coupa, Diligent).
Responsibilities:
Your primary responsibility is to drive `Engineering Excellence\xe2\x80\x99 across the teams and their related large-scale programs. You will demonstrate a passion for delivering quality software efficiently and reducing toil. In addition, you will drive high standards across the department and be a role model exemplifying these standards. You will be able to develop and communicate technical strategy and influence stakeholders in the delivery of IT solutions aligned to HSBC Technology\xe2\x80\x99s strategic vision. This position plays an instrumental role in driving technical delivery and best in class engineering across a portfolio of agile teams.
As the senior most engineer in the Colleague Experience IT area, you will be able to convey complex topics and work closely with the CIO, business partners as well as your Principal Engineer peers. In addition, you will upskill teams and providing the oversight and direction to deliver at scale.

Essential Skillset/Experience:
This role demands a deep awareness of technology, best practices, tooling and emerging trends across the industry. You will be able to mobilise ideas safely within a controlled framework.
\xc2\xb7 Hands on passionate technologist who is still delivering code to production
\xc2\xb7 A focus on engineering best practices - deep understanding and appropriate application of devops/ mode 2/ automation.
\xc2\xb7 Ability to follow the industry shifts and offerings across the full-stack including Containers, Kubernetes, Cloud, Virtualization, service mesh, data lakes, storage and networking in Cloud environments.
\xc2\xb7 Ideally does one or more for the following \xe2\x80\x93 blogs about technology and engineering practices, has a GitHub portfolio and/or contributes to open source.
\xc2\xb7 Experience in event driven processing would be useful but not essential.
\xc2\xb7 A problem solver that can translate business opportunities into technical solutions.
\xc2\xb7 Experience of modern programming languages and the ability to choose the \xe2\x80\x98right tool for the job\xe2\x80\x99.
\xc2\xb7 Understands the different architectures across the portfolio and modifies approaches for each e.g. on prem build, SaaS, PaaS and IaaS.
\xc2\xb7 Connect, build and support communities that \xe2\x80\x98raise the bar\xe2\x80\x99 on delivering quality and efficiency.
The role will be based in Sheffield but some travel may be required. This role supports Hybrid working.
