THE POST

This post is based at the Colgate-Palmolive Dental Health Unit, Manchester, UK. The main duties of this post involve conducting clinical studies and providing support for clinical trials carried out by the Dental Health Unit.

We are seeking to appoint a motivated, and capable individual with experience in applied health research. The postholder will work with members of the Unit to coordinate and undertake research studies with a focus on improving oral health across global populations, advancing oral care by developing new methods and research capabilities, and the discovery and translation of knowledge to improve best practice, clinical care, and oral health. The successful appointee will have excellent communication and organisation skills, and experience of working with research datasets. A clinical background in oral health (e.g. BDS, BSC Dental Hygiene and Therapy or equivalent) is essential. Previous experience in the management and co-ordination of clinical research studies is required.

The Colgate-Palmolive Dental Health Unit is a leading centre for oral health research based at The University of Manchester. Established over 50 years ago in partnership with the Colgate-Palmolive Company, the Unit continues to advance oral health through innovative, multidisciplinary research streams.

DUTIES

ManageManage the research process, from design to administration and analysis of clinical trials involving novel diagnostic devices & oral care interventions.

Independently create relevant databases and perform analyses using statistical packages.

Assume responsibility for the composition and development of clinical trial protocols.

Be required to become familiar with other research groups and business functions in order to identify possible links to dental diagnostic methods and/or relevant areas for collaborative support of CP research priorities.

Serve as an examiner in clinical studies.

Responsible for end-to-end clinical study design, management and analysis of oral care products and novel technologies.

Perform clinical studies in collaboration with other Colgate-Palmolive Technology Centers.

Contribute to the training and supervision of clinical trial site staff.

Manage the writing, drafting and reviewing of materials study reports and manuscripts for publication.

Work closely with the DHU Director to ensure the collaborative nature of the Unit is maintained - this may include supervision of postgraduate students.

Manage the administration of a range of clinical trials according to local, national and company policy.

Maintain study documentation (TMF) in compliance with relevant regulations, i.e. Good Clinical Practice.

FLEXIBILITY & CONFIDENTIALITY

A flexible approach to working hours is essential, reflecting the dynamic nature of the role.

Readiness and enthusiasm to travel to distant sites conducting clinical trials, demonstrating commitment to the task at hand.

Capability and willingness to operate at remote clinical sites for extended periods, potentially for extended periods of time.

An understanding of the importance of confidentiality in dealing with research data and projects sponsored by the commercial or pharmaceutical industry.

The applicant should have a keen interest in health sciences research, and will conduct clinical trials and in vitro research.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Competence in functioning productively within a cross-functional team and the ability to communicate complex concepts in understandable terms to non-experts.

Excellent attention to detail

Ability to present data effectively to a diverse audience.
