North Bristol NHS Trust is the largest Trust in the South West region and one of the largest trusts in the country. Last year the Trust treated over 100,000 inpatients, over 35,000 outpatients, 90,000 emergency department patients and helped deliver over 6,000 babies. The Trust also provides sub regional, regional and supra regional services in Neurosciences, Orthopaedics, Pathology, Plastic Surgery and Burns, Renal Medicine and Transplant and Urology and is the Major Trauma Centre for the West Country.The health service in Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire is being remodelled to concentrate on acute facilities and where appropriate to provide more care close to patient homes through a network community hospitals and facilities. The Trust currently delivers these services from a new hospital on the Southmead site that open in May 2014. At Southmead Hospital, we also have our excellent maternity and women's health services, the Bristol Breast Care Centre and the Trust's Severn Pathology Service.The Trust has University Teaching status and is associated with both the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England.Main duties of the jobMain duties of the jobPlastics surgery Clinical FellowThe Clinical Fellow (ST3+/SpR Level) rotates to a particular Consultant or Consultants within the Department on a 6 month rotation.Most of the commitments are at Southmead or the Bristol Children's Hospital.This is a very busy department. The successful candidate will be exposed to trauma as well as elective plastic surgery procedures. The department deals with hand and lower limb trauma as well as facial soft injury tissues. We are the Paediatric Burns Centre and Regional Burns Unit for the South West. The Cleft Lip and Palate unit is located at the Bristol Children's Hospital.The job will cover ward, out-patients and theatre duties.There will be a rotation to the Bristol Children Hospital and will cover all aspects of Paediatric Plastic Surgery except Hypospadias Surgery currently performed by Paediatric Urologists.About usWorking for your organisationNBT Cares. Education/Training
Essential

  • MBBS
  • Full Registration with the GMC with license to practice
Desirable
  • Higher academic qualification (e.g. MD or MS)
Work Experience
Essential
  • Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 4 years postgraduate experience including 2 years as SHO in an approved training post, or equivalent. Part of this period may be in a post of equivalent responsibility and training potential
  • Plastic surgery experience at ST2 level or above
Knowledge and Skills
Essential
  • Experience in audit projects
  • Willingness to undertake teaching of medical under-graduates and postgraduates
Desirable
  • Proven teaching ability
  • Willingness to undertake further research
