We have an exciting opportunity to join us as a Clinical Fellow in Genomics on a Fixed Term Contract until the end of March 2025. In this role you will be involved in:

• Supporting the assessment of genes and variants that would be appropriate to screen for in the Newborn Genomes Programme
• Supporting the development and evaluation of care pathways linked to results from the Newborn Genomes Programme
• Monitoring the data we receive about participant results and supporting our evaluation of the study (e.g., potential false negative or false positive cases)
• Supporting education and training and relevant materials for healthcare professionals responsible for delivering results in the study

Your key accountabilities will include:

• Providing clinical support and subject matter expertise related to the design and delivery of our services and programmes
• Supporting senior members of the clinical team in their engagements with the Science Advisory Committee, Ethics Advisory Committee, Access Review Committee and the Participants Panel
• Together with other members of the clinical team, providing clinical support to the service management team, including supporting complex conversations with research participants and handling of routine enquiries, complaints and clinical incidents
• Learning about the clinical safety mindset across the span of your work at Genomics England
• Taking responsibility for the day-to-day running and iterative improvement of specific business-as-usual processes, as relevant to the role

Due to the nature of the role and the skillset required, we would consider this role on a secondee basis and are happy to be flexible in the way this is undertaken; this could be on a 3, 4 or 5 day week of between 0.6 & 0.8 FTE.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role we expect candidates to have a sound clinical knowledge in Genomic medicine at the level of a specialist trainee and ideally experience in genomic research or bioinformatics, of developing or streamlining processes and /or experience of writing and publishing peer-reviewed papers and be:

• Medically qualified
• Full GMC registration
• Current ST3-ST6 in Clinical Genetics or specialist trainee in another relevant specialty with genomics experience in the NHS

Genomics England operates a blended working model as we know our people appreciate the flexibility. We expect most people to come into the office 2 times each month as a minimum. However, this will vary according to role and will be agreed with your team leader. For some people this is 1 day a quarter, for others it is several days a week. There is no expectation that staff will return to the office full time unless they want to. The exception would be some of our roles that would require you to be on site full time e.g., lab teams, reception team.

Our teams and squads have, and will continue to, reflect on what works best for them to work together successfully and have the freedom to design working patterns to suit, beyond the minimum. Our office locations are Canary Wharf, Cambridge and Leeds.
