The CEGE Engineering workshop facility is located on the Bloomsbury campus. Its purpose to provide practical technical support to departmental academics, researchers and students in design, manufacture, assembly and testing of bespoke novel scientific equipment. The Engineering workshop provides supports to the department\xe2\x80\x99s laboratories and to undergraduate and postgraduate student projects.
About the role
The Department of Civil, Environmental & Geomatic Engineering is searching for an innovative and enterprising person to fill a dual role of Civil Engineering Workshop Manager and Research & Teaching Support Technician in the Geotechnics laboratory.
This role will manage the Civil Engineering Workshop to facilitate in the effective and efficient day to day running of the workshop to meet the needs of research and teaching, including managing health & safety in the workshop to maintain compliance with UCL & CEGE health & safety policy & procedures.
This role will also provide practical technical support to research and teaching and to facilitate in the day to day running of the Geotechnics laboratory.

About you
With HND/HNC or equivalent experience in a relevant engineering subject or equivalent skills and knowledge, demonstrable through career experience, you will be able to advise fellow technical staff, academics, researchers and students on technical issues regarding concept, design, manufacture, assembly and installation of mechanical engineering components, devices and systems. You will also have experience in managing and implementing health and safety systems in a practical high hazard environment such as an engineering workshop and/or Geotechnics laboratory.
Engineering experience will include working in a high-tech or a precision engineering industry or higher education including experience of working within an engineering workshop for the manufacture and assembly of complex devices and the development of innovative designs.
Your line management experience (ideally gained in an engineering R&D setting), will show you can motivate staff and bring teams together to achieve a common goal.
Able to work with minimal supervision, you will be skilled at effective prioritisation of your own work within deadlines and competing demands, be able to exercise your own initiative and be willing to participate in training to update skills and for continuous career development.
You will have a strong sense of accountability and be prepared to take ownership of problems and issues to deliver a prompt, satisfactory outcome.
