Job title: Cattery Animal Care Assistant

Location: Colinton Cattery, Edinburgh, EH13 0PJ

Salary: 10:00 per hour for age 18-20 year olds, 12.21 per hour for age 21 and over

Hours per week: 13 hours with the option of extra hours in line with business needs.

This vacancy is for hours per week: Saturdays 07:00 - 15:00 and Sundays 07:00 - 12:00 noon.

We're looking for Animal Care Assistants to join our team here at Colinton Cattery, starting on 26 May (though we can be flexible on the start date) until end September 2025. There is a possibility of this being extended until end October 2025. You will be fundamental in playing your part within a dedicated team caring for all aspects of our resident cats' wellbeing.

Our level of cat care is exceptional, and we pride ourselves in offering a safe home from home environment for all our cats in residence with owners knowing their cat(s) are loved, cared for, and monitored as if they are our own.

We are a fully licensed family run business, with owners living on site. We have grown and developed over the past four years into the leading cattery in Edinburgh. With over 2,600 customers we provide a wonderful service to cats and owners alike.

What you'll be doing:

Reporting to the Cattery Manager you will be playing an active part in the operational running of the cattery in accordance with DEFRA's higher level standards, including:

Day to day cat care, including non-veterinary health assessments in collaboration with other staff throughout a cat's stay Administering medication Daily cat run cleaning, tidying and setting as per cattery set up Cat enrichment Carrying out routine cat behaviour observations and accurately recording of this Ensuring all health and safety measures and procedures are observed and adhered to Where necessary, liaising with our affiliated veterinary practice in the treatment of any cat requiring veterinary care including ensuring that treatments and medications are administered in the prescribed quantity at the specified intervals- occasionally this involves you taking the cat to a vet appointment Managing and preparing stock, including deliveries Administration of bookings and payments, via our portal system Checking in and checking out cats Identifying and requesting any maintenance requirements Please note for some shifts you will be working on your own
Skills we are looking for:

Experience of working with cats within the animal care/welfare industry (essential) Animal Welfare qualification (or a willingness to achieve this in your own time) Self motivated with a proven ability to self manage and co-ordinate with other staff High responsibility and ability to work on your own Experience of working with customers (essential) Sound literacy and numeracy skills (essential) Full UK driving licence (desirable)
