Casual / From 2.5 hours to 15 hours per week

Are you passionate about working with children and young people with disabilities?

The Disabled Children\xe2\x80\x99s Service supports children and young people aged 0-19 years who have a range of physical and learning disabilities and challenging behaviours to access short break services in a variety of settings including services within their own home. This is a great opportunity to join us to support children and their families by working in partnership with other agencies and services. We aim to provide a valuable service to many families by offering much needed short breaks for both children and young people as well as parents and carers.

This is a casual post therefore you\xe2\x80\x99ll be required to work flexibly including evenings, weekends, and school holidays due to the nature of the role. You\xe2\x80\x99ll usually work in the child/young person\xe2\x80\x99s local community however you may be required to travel to other parts of the city depending on where the activity is based.

As this post is casual your working hours can range from 2 hours up to a maximum of 7.5 hours per shift depending on the assess need and activity.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll be doing

Providing support to access services, activities, and groups, you\xe2\x80\x99ll also supervise and participate in activities with children, young people as and when required enabling them to develop their skills and make friends - providing the parents and carers a valuable break from their caring roles. This could include taking the child or young person swimming, to a youth club, to the local park, adventure playground, trip to the cinema or trampolining park, etc. You\xe2\x80\x99ll complete relevant paperwork in relation to the child/young person and activity undertaken to provide feedback to the allocated worker following the short break session. You\xe2\x80\x99ll ensure that any necessary risk assessments are in place prior to the offer of support including ensuring personal or complex care needs are met.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll need

You\xe2\x80\x99ll have previous experience of working with children and young people with disabilities and complex needs. With strong understanding of inclusion and equality issues, and the development needs of children, you\xe2\x80\x99ll create, arrange, and support a range of suitable activities. Using excellent verbal and written communication skills you\xe2\x80\x99ll liaise with community, leisure, voluntary groups, community and other agencies and services to identify and organise activities which are appropriate and meet the needs of disabled children. You\xe2\x80\x99ll be enthusiastic and creative in your approach to ensure children receive positive.

This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.

National Care Minimum Standards apply under The Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9 Part 1 so applicants must be aged 21 and over.
