Case Underwriter

Hastings Direct is a growing company within the UK general insurance market with over 3 million live customers; our vision is to become the best and biggest digital insurer.

The case referral team review all lines of business sold via Hastings Direct, underwritten by Advantage under a delegated authority agreement. The team are accountable to Advantage Insurance Services for agreeing cover where the risk falls outside the usual product parameters and where non-disclosures come to light.

We\xe2\x80\x99re seeking 2 case Underwriters to keep pace with our growing business demands.

The Role:

The successful candidate will handle underwriting related telephone & correspondence queries from other business areas including customer service, claims, CRD and external bodies i.e. law enforcement and other authorities, within agreed service levels.

You will also make underwriting decisions within specified authority levels on individual risks which fall outside standard product parameters. This includes renewal assessment and non-disclosures & voidance of policy cover at claims stage.

How you\xe2\x80\x99ll make a difference:

• Handle underwriting queries via phone & email with referral to senior where needed.
• Make decisions on acceptability of risks in accordance with current underwriting appetite and within defined authority, using knowledge of product & policy cover.
• Handle claims indemnity queries where there has been non-disclosure or queries regarding policy cover in accordance with the Consumer Insurance (Disclosure & Representation) Act.
• Identify and make recommendations for continuous improvement to enhance operational efficiency.
• Ensure undesirable risks are removed from cover at the earliest opportunity and not renewed.
• Ad hoc support and other projects where required.

About you:

• CII Certificate in Insurance (or working towards this qualification)
• Good knowledge of personal lines insurance with at least 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in a senior/technical role.
• Excellent underwriting knowledge and risk assessment skills.
• Good knowledge of current legislation affecting insurers (e.g. CIDRA & Deregulation Act)
• Good time management skills, attention to detail and the ability to work alone and under pressure.
