Job Title:

Caretaker

Reporting to:

Centre Management in the first instance

Hours:

25 hours per week, am & pm (5 hours per day) Monday - Friday

Rationale:

In The Sunshine Centre, the Caretaking/Cleaning team forms a valuable resource supporting the children, other staff and parents.

Status:

The Caretaker is an integral part of The Sunshine Centre and as such is given the respect as all other staff.

Aim:

To ensure the centre premises is a safe, caring and supportive environment.

Main purpose of the job:



You will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and maintenance of the whole centre, using your initiative and time management to maintain a high level of presentation, throughout.

To supervise other members of the cleaning team.

In collaboration with the hub manager to order stock and appoint contractors where necessary.

Key Tasks:



Lock or unlock the building securely.

Ensuring all rooms, toilet areas, communal areas and offices are clean and well maintained.

Ensuring all rooms have requires resources, such as paper towels and soaps.

Maintaining the stock room, including regular stock takes.

Ordering supplies with the Centre administrator/Hub Manager.

Some light garden duties, such as tidying, weeding etc.

Sweeping outside entrance and keeping it presentable.

Managing recycling and refuse, including monitoring collections.

Weekly deep clean areas in rotation.

Undertake some maintenance as required.

To report to Senior Management or his/her authorised deputy, matters that are likely to affect their work or other matters they consider that they should be aware of.

To use cleaning materials appropriately and economically, in line with Health & Safety, COSHH etc.

To keep all cleaning equipment and materials in a safe and sanitary working condition.

To ensure that tools and equipment are in good working order, reporting any faults to the Hub Manager.

To ensure that the storage areas and cupboards are clean and tidy.

To work to The Sunshine Centre guidelines at all times, particularly in relation to health and safety policies.

To ensure you have an understanding (appropriate to your role) of and comply with The Sunshine Centres' procedures for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.

To attend all essential health and safety training courses as determined by the management of The Sunshine Centre.

To maintain confidentiality at all times in respect of Sunshine Centre related matters and to prevent disclosure of confidential and sensitive information.

To undertake any other duties of a similar level and responsibility as may be required.

This job description is subject to change in consultation with the post holder, depending on the needs of The Sunshine Centre community.

Daily Duties:



Open the centre in the morning and ensure the premises are secure at the end of the day.

Ensuring all floors are swept and mopped thoroughly with germicidal disinfectant.

Carpets to be vacuumed and edges cleaned.

All bins to be emptied, refuse to be taken to appropriate storage area and bin liners replaced.

Ensure kitchen bin is clean.

Clean toilets and washbasins using germicidal disinfectant.

Damp dust and polish taps and mirrors.

Damp dust pipes, cisterns, disposal units and towel cabinets.

Damp dust wall tiles up to normal hand height (5'6")

Replenish toilet roll holders, soap dispensers and paper towel dispensers.

Ensure all windows and doors are closed and locked.

Report/and/or repair items or areas which have been rendered in disrepair.

Weekly Duties:



Dust furniture, picture frames, ledges, skirting, sills and radiators up to normal hand height (5'6")

To wash all equipment, both kitchen and service items.

Damp dust light switches, door furniture and walls to remove any marks.

Polish where necessary.

Clean glass doors and windows to remove hand marks etc.

Person Specification



Education/Qualifications:

Basic standard of literacy to read instructions. Educated to GCSE level

Skills:

Ability to clean effectively. Basic maintenance skills and knowledge of maintenance needed to achieve compliance. Knowledge of Health & Safety Regulations

Ability:

Ability to track and order stock. Ability to undertake and record compliance checks.

Aptitude:

Trustworthy and reliable. Willingness to be flexible. Ability to work under pressure at times. Ability to work as a member of a team

Motivation:

Commitment to achieving high standards. Willingness to undertake training if required

Experience:

Previous experience in a similar post

Physical:

Ability to undertake all the physical aspects of the post

Physical:

Ability to move and use domestic and industrial type cleaning equipment (polishers, vacuum cleaners etc)

Other

: Willingness to wear personal protective equipment as supplied

Pay: 14.00 per hour
