Job Description


The purpose of the position is to support GBS\xe2\x80\x99s Careers and Employability placement service and to source work placements for GBS courses. You will be expected to help build our database of potential placements, volunteering and internships providers and opportunities, as well as support delivering GBS\xe2\x80\x99s plans and initiatives. As part of the role, you will be expected to conduct due diligence on behalf of GBS with both students and employers and to ensure relevant documentation and workplace agreements are collected in a timely and accurate manner. Successful placements are required to ensure students complete this aspect of their Work-Based Learning Module successfully.

The role also requires you to organise and deliver workshops and events to support the placement module and the wider Careers and Employability service and offer placement advice via one-to-one appointments. The appointed Careers and Employability Placement Officer will be the primary contact for placement support and advice at their campus.   • To establish and maintain sustainable relationships with employers and different industry sectors, and to continue developing placement and professional development opportunities for GBS students
  • To maintain and grow a database of placements, volunteering and internships providers with suitable opportunities in Healthcare, Business, and other related fields and to connect employers with GBS students
  • To manage multiple student placements. This will include ensuring all the correct documentation is received from the student and the employer; ensuring the placement is set up correctly between GBS and the employer; and to ensure that GBS remains compliant in accordance with the placement requirements and partnership organisations.
  • To ensure accurate work placement and student records are maintained using the placement tracker and compiling reports required by the department
  • To develop online resources to support students who are undertaking work placement opportunities
  • To conduct one-to-one meetings at the start of each term to students participating in the work placement programme to help prepare students for placements
  • To deliver a series of pre-placement preparation workshops to support students prior to starting their placement
  • To assist employers in promoting and advertising job opportunities within GBS to our students through our online platform, targeted emails, and careers newsletter
  • To support with developing on campus activities, presenting information, delivering workshops and on campus events such as job fairs
  • To work with local employers in identifying and addressing skill gaps and employment opportunities for the students (temporary, part-time, full time and on-line.)
  • Maintaining regular contact with the student and employer to monitor the progress of the placement and resolve any issues that may arise (e.g., complaints,) and to capture best practice and lessons learned
  • To undertake some travel between GBS campuses
  • To prepare reports on placement activity and contribute to placement briefings, ensuring information is accurate and accessible
  • To keep up to date with current labour market information
  • Recognised professional qualification at degree or higher degree level in a relevant discipline
  • Ability to think strategically and to communicate that thinking effectively
  • Previous experience of working within a HE placement environment, Careers Service or Recruitment Service
  • Experience of delivering workshops and one-to-one appointments
  • Knowledge of managing work-based placements
  • Sound knowledge, understanding and experience of employer engagement
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experienced in developing and maintaining stakeholder relationships
  • Effective networking and negotiating skills
  • A commitment to keeping informed of the current labour market trends, particularly recruitment practices used in the business and healthcare sectors, with the possibility of adding additional sectors as the college needs arise
  • Experience of client relationship management
  • The ability to achieve targets in a fast-paced organisation
  • Intermediate IT skills and the ability to adapt quickly to new technology
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
