Overview
We are seeking a caring, understanding and customer-focused individual to join our friendly Campus Safety and Security (CS&S) team. We constantly strive to deliver an excellent student experience by ensuring that our service provides a safe, secure, and supportive place to study and work. You will supervise a team of 14 staff on a rotating 24/7 shift pattern including bank holidays and weekends. The team responds to all emergency incidents across the University estate for example; managing fire alarms, first aid, emergency mental health support. Responding to incidents and emergencies as required, you will demonstrate careful judgement, excellent customer service and a high level of integrity. You will foster an environment of continuous improvement, developing your team and providing a highly visible presence and service around campus.

Main duties and responsibilities
To supervise the duties of Campus Safety and Security and Campus Warden Staff.
Undertake daily briefings and all aspects of staff supervision including monitoring the performance of staff, reporting to CS&S management team when required.
Assess incidents to make a decision on the most appropriate course of action, with a working knowledge of data protection, health and safety, relevant legislation and existing procedures or codes of practice.
Provide on the ground leadership and supervision for routine activities, daily operations and at events e.g. graduation, VIP and royal visits.
Undertake regular reviews of incident procedures to ensure they are fit for purpose and accurately reflect the duties undertaken by the CS&S team.
Ensure accurate records of incidents to meet legislative and University requirements and to provide reliable management information.
Using excellent interpersonal skills to manage and develop relationships with stakeholders and customers ensuring that the CS&S team remain customer focussed.
Identify continuous improvement opportunities for the CS&S team, proactively identifying proposals for change.
Take responsibility for the professional and personal development of your team, including completing annual staff reviews, giving constructive feedback and setting goals for service improvements.
Responsibility for management and audit of all equipment including radios, mobile phones, vehicles, master cards and keys.
Responsibility for staffing across all shifts and maintaining minimum staffing levels in line with operational requirements.
Responsibility for appropriately dealing with disputes, sickness absence and disciplinary matters, with appropriate referral to managers.
Proactively planning for your own activities and those of the CS&S team.
Be able to work flexible hours to fulfil this role and to support the operational output of the Security section as required.
Any other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post as required by the Security Services Management team.

Essential criteria
Previous supervisory experience, with evidence of robustly dealing with interpersonal disputes, sickness and absence management (assessed at: interview/ application).
Demonstrable success in building and managing a team, developing standards and challenging behaviours (assessed at: interview/ application).
A good understanding of customer service to deal with enquiries and to handle complaints or with difficult situations (assessed at: interview/ application).
Ability to adapt and respond to change and motivate staff; the changing and evolving needs of the University and the Department, and to the changing priorities and work tasks within the team (assessed at: interview/ application).
Ability to conduct a dynamic risk assessment to manage a wide variety of situations, collaborating with others, and calling on additional support as required (assessed at: interview/ application/ test).
Ability to plan and prioritise activities at short notice; delegating tasks, managing resources and using initiative and judgement (assessed at: interview/ application).
Good written communication skills and the demonstrable ability to convey important and detailed information in written form, in a highly accurate and thorough manner (assessed at: application/ test).
Good IT skills and a willingness to learn specific IT packages should they become relevant to the role (assessed at: application/test).
Experience of applying legislative knowledge relating to General Data Protection and health and safety with the ability to identify the potential for risks and take action as required (assessed at: interview/ application).
Hold a full valid current UK driving licence (assessed at: application).
Desirable criteria
Previous relevant experience working within a Security, Safety or Emergency Services environment (assessed at: application).

39,304 to 44,940 per annum including shift allowance (with the potential to progress to 48,845 per annum including shift allowance, through sustained exceptional contribution).
