We are looking to expand our team with an AAT or similarly qualified Bookkeeper to join our accountancy practice.
Working primarily with small to medium sized pet-based businesses throughout the UK, our practice supports hundreds of clients from small sole traders to larger limited companies with a variety of tax and payroll services whilst delivering a quality, professional yet friendly and approachable service. Trading as The Pet Accountant, we are the go-to accountancy firm for all pet professionals from pet stores to dog boarders, trainers, walkers and groomers.
We are not like your typical accountancy firm and that's why our clients like us so much. From our casual dress to our engagement with our clients at events such as Crufts and the Pet Industry Federation awards and our close-knit team who are regularly on social media reaching out to our clients or offering some advice. So, whilst your skills are important, so is your personality.
If you are an AAT Level 3 AATQB or similarly qualified bookkeeper and you want to feel valued, an integral part of a team, want your own portfolio of clients to manage and enjoy working with all aspects of bookkeeping then we would like to hear from you.
In return, we offer a competitive salary, additional annual leave for years of service up to 38 days per year starting at 33 days, bonuses based on the practice achievements and a sign-on bonus for any clients you bring on board (although you are not targeted or expected to do this). We are also big on team building, so expect invites to meals, the funfair or the odd game of crazy golf.
Progression will be supported and actively encouraged as well as the opportunity to join us on marketing events which could include attendance to trade shows or help deliver training and business growth tips on one of our Spanish retreats.
So here's what we need from you.
You will typically manage a portfolio of around 70 clients, completing their monthly bookkeeping to trial balance each month which includes balancing control accounts, posting journals and completing VAT returns. Other tasks will include reconciling of the bank and client liaison (both phone calls and email). Our practice uses Xero and FreeAgent so proficiency in both is desirable, although training and certification will be provided.
A candidate with practice experience would be ideal but as long as you have the qualifications and some experience, especially with VAT returns, we can work with you to develop the other skills the role needs.
