About Us
Diamond Light Source is the UK\xe2\x80\x99s national synchrotron and one of the most advanced scientific facilities in the world. By accelerating electrons to near light-speed, Diamond generates brilliant beams of light from infra-red to X-rays which are used for academic and industry research and development across a range of scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, earth, and environmental sciences.
About the role
We are now looking for a skilled and highly motivated Beamline Scientist to join beamline I12 (the Joint Engineering, Environmental and Processing Beamline - JEEP) at Diamond, an experimental facility that provides intense radiation in the high-energy X-ray spectrum.
I12 is a multi-technique beamline for diffraction and imaging of engineering components, materials, and processes, under real conditions. The beam characteristics permit the in-situ study of materials and processes inside environmental chambers, and the photon beam energy enables good penetration through large or dense samples, combined with a large beam size. X-ray techniques available are radiography, tomography, energy-dispersive diffraction, monochromatic and white beam 2D diffraction/scattering.
I12 has established a broad user community in Materials Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geoscience, Biology, Cultural Heritage, and Physics.
The Beamline Scientist will contribute to the technical development of the beamline, assist in the installation and commissioning of beamline components, provide user support, and carry out research in areas relevant to the beamline.
