What you\'ll do

The Traction Battery Test Team is part of JLRs Powertrain Test Operations (PTTO) function within Product Engineering Operations.

The team maintains productive and safe workflow from our internal Battery Test facilities, delivering high quality electrical characterisation and performance data at the cell, module and pack level. The primary focus of the team is on enabling the operational delivery of high quality test data to support the Design Verification (DV) of traction battery pack systems for hybrid and electric vehicles.

The Facility Technician role will operate across our internal facilities conducting activities in order to ensure that productive output is maintained, will be responsible for facilitating specialist equipment and facility servicing and maintenance activities, providing and maintaining common standardised operational processes, and will seek to optimise operational capability through regular involvement in continuous improvement activities.

You will be required to become highly proficient in the inspection and maintenance of battery test equipment and instrumentation, and will lead the associated issue reporting and issue resolution activities.

The opportunity

Support the delivery of the work of the Battery Test Team by optimising test equipment availability. This will be achieved by:

Updating and communicating Service, Calibration and Maintenance Plans and maintaining a live overview of the facility.

Organising equipment calibrations with JLRs internal Instrumentation team

Organising equipment calibrations with external 3rd Party organisations.

Reviewing Calibration reports and updating the Calibration Information Database.

Quarantining and labelling of non-conforming equipment.

Organising and co-ordinating equipment transportation and re-instatement.

Visitor management and hosting servicing and maintenance engineers onsite.

Preparation and review of contractor paperwork for onsite activities (CJR & RAMS)

Creation of internal work instructions and local process documents.

Co-ordination and management of routine TPM activities.

Reporting and managing facility and equipment issues (CCAR).

Rectification/diagnosis of issues, engagement of Lead Facility Engineers where needed.

Commissioning and Hand-over of new facility/test equipment (VISTAG).

Conduct and regularly review and update PUWER assessments for facility equipment.

Conduct and regularly review and update LOLER assessment and associated reports.

Preparation and continuous improvement of equipment user guidance and process documentation.

Carrying out any work or FMS job cards assigned by their supervisor.

Supporting area 5s activities to maintain a high standard of work environment.

Taking personal responsibility for working within and maintaining a safe working environment.

Aiding in material handling activities.

Attending training courses to ensure continuous personal development.

Coaching and mentoring skilled associates and apprentices to work collaboratively and successfully.

Supporting the induction and training of new starters.

Undertaking any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested.

What you\'ll need

Essential:

Functional Skills Level 2 or equivalent in English, Maths and Science

An indentured apprenticeship or educated to Level 3 or higher in a Systems, Mechanical, or Electrical/Electronics Engineering related field, or equivalent experience preferred.

Prepared to undertake vocational studies and attain an NVQ Level 4 qualification.

Experience of conducting and co-ordinating test equipment and facility servicing, calibration and maintenance activities.

Experience of working/liasing with external suppliers

Knowledge of equipment calibration standards and methods

Experience of working in a modern highly automated engineering test facility.

Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements, Risk Assessment, COSHH and MSDS.

Competent in structured formal problem-solving methodologies (DMAIC, 8D, etc)

Competent in reading and understanding technical manuals and drawings

Proven ability to plan, co-ordinate and control own workflow and achieve quality results

Proven ability to adhere to all safety requirements and challenge others to do likewise

Proven ability to mentor and train others especially skilled associates and apprentices

Computer literate, including Microsoft Office competency.

Desirable:

Level 4 qualification or above in Engineering, Science, Mathematical or related discipline or ability and willingness to obtain one as detailed by EP-861 and the EP-8 Leadership Team.

Experience of working with environmental chambers, coolant chillers systems

Experience of working with electrical test equipment and data acquisition systems.

Experience of process development and documentation (Guides, Single Point Lessons, Safe Systems of Work)

Experience of implementing Energy Control and Power Lockout (ECPL or Lock Out Tag Out) Understanding of PUWER and LOLER regulations and completing assessments

Knowledge of Quality Management Standards (IATF16949 & ISO9001)

Experience working safely in High Voltage or high risk environments

Fork Lift Truck (FLT) licence and experience

A full UK driving license with less than 6 penalty points, no disqualification, 2 years accident free record.
