JOB PURPOSE

We are looking for a Site HSE (Health, Safety, Environment & Energy) Manager for Basildon to join us at Leonardo. The main purpose for the role is to ensure through overseeing, the correct application of the relevant company Health, Safety & Environmental management systems and practices, the effective implementation and maintenance of environmentally safe and legally compliant places of work in respect of all LEUK activities for Basildon, the Hub and associated sites.

KEY JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

You are responsible for ensuring that activities under your control are undertaken in accordance with the requirements set out in the Leonardo UK HSE Policy, Quality Policy and supporting arrangements.

• Ensure the provision of an appropriate level of advice to site Basildon managers and wider team in relation to the execution of their duties within the HSE BMS- Business Management System,
• Support the LEUK HSE team in the maintenance of Health, Safety, Environmental and Energy Certifications, with the development of policy, procedures and practices and in the conduct of all internal/external audits; inspections and visits,
• Liaise with and support the general activities of the Basildon site leadership team for HSE.
• Identify, analyse and prepare the site risk register and mitigation actions,
• Ensure HSE investigations are carried out appropriately to the required standard and include root cause analysis,
• Ensure suitable and sufficient advice and guidance are communicated to operational management,
• Has responsibility to apply suitable and sufficient HSE arrangements locally,
• Ensures proactive management principles and tools are applied locally,
• Monitors HSE performance and ensures internal assurance processes are in place locally,
• Ensures area of responsibility is in compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements,
• Has the ability to effectively manage any enforcement visits in conjunction with the LEUK HSE Head of HSE,
• When required, responsible for attending site leadership meetings in order to progress the HSE agenda,
• Development, implementation and monitoring of objectives and targets locally to continually improve through the Leonardo LEUK HSE BMS.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Chartered membership of IOSH or working towards (or Chartership of an equivalent organisation),
• NEBOSH Diploma in Health and Safety or equivalent HSE qualification (or working towards)
• Detailed knowledge of UK statutory regulations in respect of health, safety & environment with a demonstrable technical knowledge and at least 10 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience of providing technical support of manufacturing methods; factory services, maintenance & facilities requirements and construction projects,
• Experience in ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 implementation and maintenance, including a qualification as an internal auditor,
• Demonstrate appropriate HSE behaviours, whilst maintaining a culture of openness and transparency to improve HSE performance,
• Good interpersonal and team skills to ensure of being able interact and communicate at all levels,
• Negotiation skills to the extent of being able to deal effectively with managers; employees; customers; suppliers and the enforcing authorities,
• Project Management skills,
• Forward looking with a holistic approach,
• Advanced computer literacy to the extent of using systems and software packages to undertake statistical analysis and the generation of board reports.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Member of IEMA (either working towards or is a Chartered Member) or of an equivalent institution is desirable,
• Auditing Experience of ISO 50001 desirable,
• Knowledge of manufacturing and engineering environments.

The role requires strong relationships with the following:

• LEUK HSE Team members at all levels,
• Basildon site team, in particular the Vice Principal Operations for Basildon and Operations teams,
• People, Health & Wellbeing (Occupational Health) teams,
• Engineering function,
• Facilities Management Contractor (FMC) provider,
• ISO accreditation bodies (LRQA/NQA),
• Line management of HSE Coordinator for Basildon.
