YMCA Brighton is seeking to hire Bank Workers to cover shifts when required in the following supportive roles:

Project Assistant Day Receptionist Night Receptionist Cleaner

12.50 per hour

Working Hours:


We provide a 24/7-hour service provision at each of our projects, including days, nights evenings and weekend shifts.
A Day shift is 8 hours on average
A Night shift can vary from 10/12 hour shift

Key Responsibilities:



1. Following directions from the lead person on shift. Or if lone working to take direction from handover meetings/notes at the beginning of a shift, ensuring to follow the lone working protocols at all times and using the on-call service to support you when required.
2. To assist in providing a safe, psychologically informed environment (PIE) offering maximum opportunities for growth and recovery. Where applicable direct clients to assess support from their keyworker, unless it is a matter of urgency act on by seeking the advice, assistance and support of project staff where necessary or contacting sleep-in, on-call advice or emergency services.
3. Where applicable accessing and liaising with other organisations and services to deliver appropriate care, support and advice to clients. Including contacting emergency services if required i.e. 999 or non-emergency contact numbers.
4. Where it is required to follow procedures and safety in carrying out well-being checks and/or health and safety checks of the building, logging and reporting any outcomes from these activities.
5. To report any concerns about the client's well-being to a relevant member of staff, using correct workplace procedures.
6. Report, log and action any areas of concern, regarding safeguarding, safety or security of the project or individual clients to staff on shift and/or on-call or if appropriate to log for the next shift to pick up the action.
7. All staff have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of service users, volunteers, their families, and carers, you have a duty to ensure you are familiar with safeguarding policies, attend safeguarding training, and know who to contact if you have concerns about an adult or child's welfare.
8. Undertake administrative tasks, including logging accurate records of clients and events that occurred during your shift.
9. Assisting in tasks necessary for the running of the project.
10. In line with GDPR and Confidentiality, Clients, volunteers, and/or staff information is confidential. It is a condition of employment that you will not use or disclose any confidential information obtained under data protection legislation.
11. Where applicable to the role, to answer telephone calls, using the intercom/ paging /radio system to communicate with clients and staff- always adhering to GDPR i.e. disclosure of personnel information of clients.
12. Greet visitors to the building in a courteous, respectful manner and direct their enquiry accordingly. Ensuring that all callers to the building sign in and out are made aware of health and safety information and ensure you are familiar with each visitor's policy for each individual project, as it may differ at each.
13. Monitoring the security and safety of the project, acting as necessary to ensure that health and safety standards are maintained.
14. Adhering at all times to Health & Safety policy, procedures, and completing all training that is required to carry out this job in line with Health & Safety regulations.
15. To comply with all COSHH regulations and guidance concerning infectious, hazardous control substances at all times, this also includes PPE requirements.
16. To report any hazardous material/ sharps &/or anything applicable under the hazardous definition. and adhere to procedural guidelines and training on how to safely dispose of such.
17. Adhering to fire safety, working at heights and manual handling procedures and guidelines at all times.
18. To follow YMCA Brighton's policies and procedures at all times, including, but not only, those relating to EDI, Health and Safety, Safeguarding, and Data Protection and Confidentiality. To respond to all reasonable instructions and guidance as these procedures develop further.
19. To follow YMCA Brighton's Code of Conduct for staff, regarding workplace professionalism, at all times.
20. To ensure you are carrying out your role, attend all required training.
21. To undertake any other duties which reasonably fall within the range and responsibilities of this post, as directed.

Person Specification:



Knowledge and Understanding



Understanding of the Professional Boundaries in the worker/client relationship.
Understanding confidentiality issues and adhering to GDPR and Data governance.
An understanding of the issues faced by our client group, i.e. Homelessness, Mental Health, Substance issues, etc
A desirable understanding of Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE) and Trauma Informed Care approach

Experience



Candidates should demonstrate that they possess the skills necessary for the role.
Experience within the Support/Care sector.

Skills and Abilities



A reasonable level of IT skills, good organisational and time management skills
Ability to report and record factual and clear information.
Ability to communicate effectively with clients, visitors and other agencies/services to communicate effectively with clients, visitors and other agencies/service
Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies or challenging situations if/and when they arise
Ability to work as part of a team e.g. openness, punctuality, flexible approach to duties
Ability to work on their initiative alongside adhering to lone working protocols

Personal Qualities



Understanding of, and commitment to, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and anti-discriminatory practice.
Commitment to the Induction and training programme.

Other Requirements



Ability to manage the demands of challenging work while ensuring adherence to their own health, safety and well-being needs.

Employment with YMCA Brighton is conditional on a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, a minimum of 2 satisfactory references and proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
