We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Project Manager to join STFC Accelerator Science and Technology Centre at Daresbury Laboratory to lead cross departmental teams responsible for the delivery of multi-million-pound high impact science, research and technology projects.

You will be working within the Programmes Group at the Daresbury Laboratory, Cheshire with responsibilities for delivering projects within the ASTeC programme. ASTeC projects enable the delivery of domestic and international research outputs.

Candidates must be experienced Project Managers with a proven track record of significant project delivery and excellent technical knowledge in a relevant discipline with a broad understanding of challenging technologies and engineering requirements for science projects.

As an ASTeC Project Manager, you will:
Be part of an exciting collaborative team delivering an international scientific infrastructure
Be a pro-active leader, with excellent people management skills.
Work closely with relevant stakeholders (Internal & External) to ensure effective and efficient implementation of project(s).
Be able to draw on your technical knowledge/skills/experience to deliver project results.
Be a key member of the programs group contributing to continuous improvement of project management in ASTeC
Be highly motivated and passionate about the work you do
Be comfortable being responsible for delivering multi-million-pound projects

Tasks you will be required to:
Deliver the ASTeC project in line with the time, cost, and quality specification,
Create and deliver project management plans and schedules, revise as appropriate to meet changing needs, priorities and other requirements.
Identify resources and assign responsibilities.
Manage day-to-day operational aspects of the project(s).
Ensure project methodology is developed and followed, championing best practice across the portfolio.
Ensure Quality Assurance and Quality Control is conducted including; project documentation in line with ISO9001 2015.
Scheduling expenditures; analysing variances, earned value management (EVM) and schedule performance monitoring, initiating corrective actions as required.
Prepare project status reports to stakeholders
Anticipate and manage change control, feeding into overall project governance necessary to meet both STFC and customer project management requirements.Management of Health & Safety within the STFC H&S codes and policies.
Use computer systems for planning, communicating and purchasing.

Qualifications:
Formal qualification in Project Management e.g. APMP or Prince 2
Degree level qualification in a relevant science/engineering discipline because of the technical nature of the project delivery model, or . Or sSubstantive equivalent technical engineering project management experience.

Candidates must:
Have an excellent knowledge and demonstrated experience of project management, ideally a high technology field.
Ability to draw on a strong understanding of technical knowledge to support the delivery of technical solutions
Understand different project management techniques, tools and processes
Have experience of working in a dynamic matrix project management environment, comfortable working as part of a multidisciplinary team, but is comfortable in a leadership position.
Demonstrable enthusiasm for our projects and strong desire to take ownership of delivery of technical aspects
Have good communication skills and the ability to manage internal staff and contractors.
Have a strong safety culture and knowledge of how to work safely.
Have strong computer skills and be experienced in the use of MS Office.
Be willing and able to travel/work within the UK and overseas as required (likely 4 trips to USA per annum)
Be prepared to work flexibly to meet specific deadlines.
