About UK Assessment & Qualifications
We are responsible for the delivery of nearly 4 million examination results per annum, including A-Level, GCSE, BTEC and T-levels for students in UK and International centres. Our in-house systems process every learner from registration to marking and certification, in a highly regulated business. We currently operate a hybrid estate of predominantly bespoke systems, with an ongoing strategic transformation programme to migrate from on-prem to cloud based, cost effective, scalable and resilient services.
About the job
The position is for a Degree-level student Software Developer to work on software development projects, as a part-time role alongside their degree-level study.
About you
We\'d expect that you are working towards a Bachelor\'s Degree, Higher National Degree (HND) or Level 5 or 6 equivalent qualification in Software Engineering or Computer Science from a respected University or Further Education College.
As a Software Developer, you will develop expertise in software engineering practices, working collaboratively with the development teams within the Qualifications Delivery Program. You will be helping Pearson create and maintain software systems that support the production of digital learning content utilizing modernized, team-oriented software development tools and practices. This consist of Modern UX designs, Microservice Architectures and Assessment Services.
Key Skills & Experience
Coding using one or more of: C#, Java, React or Python
Persisting data using relational (SQL) and/or document databases
Test Driven Development (TDD)
Desirable Skills & Experience
.NET framework
CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code
Building backend services and Web APIs
Single page web applications using React
Understand modern application architectures and how they can be applied, like Microservice / Service Oriented Architectures
Spring boot framework
All our roles are hybrid working; for this role that means visiting your base office no more than once a week with the possibility of occasional travel to other Pearson sites, however, adjustments to this due to personal circumstances & preferences are possible.
For this role there is a requirement to provide occasional out of hours support during business critical periods.
We actively encourage our staff to participate in at least 40 hours of training a year, and offer relevant AWS (Amazon Web Service) training and certification as part of this role.
