About us

------------

University College London (UCL) is a multi-faculty college of the University of London with a population of over 52,000 students, from more than 150 different countries. Degree programmes are provided in Arts and Humanities, Social and Historical Sciences, Education, Architecture, Building, Environmental Design and Planning, Laws, Life Sciences and Clinical Sciences (including Medicine), Mathematical and Physical Sciences, and Engineering Sciences. UCL is among the world's top universities, as reflected in performance in a range of rankings and tables, and is ranked 9th in the world, 5th in Europe and 2nd in London in the QS World University Rankings 2025.

As London's Global University, we know diversity fosters creativity and innovation. We are committed to equality of opportunity, to being fair and inclusive, and to being a place where all belong. We particularly encourage applications from candidates who are likely to be underrepresented in UCL's workforce. These include people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, disabled people, LGBTQI+ people, and women.

The department UCL Arts and Sciences (UASc) is the home for the Bachelor of Arts and Sciences (BASc), which is the UK's leading interdisciplinary degree, covering arts, social sciences and sciences degree. BASc combines the breadth of interdisciplinary study across the arts and sciences with the opportunity to specialise in one or two key subject areas. Our graduates (first cohort graduated in 2015) have achieved outstanding outcomes both in further postgraduate study at UCL, Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College (including the School of Medicine), Cornell, Johns Hopkins, and in employment, e.g. Goldman Sachs, Amazon, The UK Treasury, Accenture, the World Food Programme. We currently have a steady-state intake of 150 undergraduates per year.

The degree is structured around a compulsory Core and 4 Pathways. In the Core, BASc students learn interdisciplinary skills including interdisciplinary research methods, quantitative methods, and a modern foreign language.

In addition to the Core, students choose a major and a minor Pathway. There are four Pathways: Cultures, Science and engineering, Sciences and Engineering, and Societies. Students choosing Cultures or Societies as their major must choose Science and engineering Sciences and Engineering as their minor pathway, and vice versa.

The Arts and Sciences department also runs the BA in Creative Arts and Humanities (BACAH), the Masters in Arts and Sciences in Creative Health (MASc) and the Interdisciplinary Societies, Arts and Sciences PhD programme.
