About the role



The purpose of the role is:


Supporting other Estimators & Senior Estimators develop estimates from 1st Principles associated with the Civil Works Programme of the Sizewell C Project. Feeding into Lead Estimator and the Head of Estimating on project to ensure consistency in estimating approach set out by the client. Be a member of the team developing the price. Stakeholder management to produce the Estimate e.g., planning, procurement etc. Supporting presentations, negotiations and justifying prices produced in an open and honest manner to both senior leaders within the business and/or external customers/partners.

Contextual Information



SZC is ultimately owned by two shareholders, EDF and HMG. The shareholders hold their investment in SZC through NNB Holdings Company (SZC) Limited. Over the course of the current shareholding arrangements the shareholdings of the two shareholders will change.



The shareholders will fund SZC up until Financial Close through equity in line with the approved schedule and budget. SZC's business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure (including activities relating to hydrogen, direct air capture and/or desalination) at Sizewell C in Suffolk. The principal objectives of the current development phase of the SZC project are to agree and implement the Capital Raise Plan, including completing an equity and debt raise, agree the core supply chain contracts and obtain the regulatory permits and licences required for the construction phase of the Project (including the core environmental permits and nuclear site licence).



Prior to the government investment decision SZC operated as part of EDF in the Nuclear Development business unit and was staffed by EDF colleagues and independent contractors who are now in the process of transferring to the direct employment of SZC. It is setting itself up as an organisation capable of delivering a new nuclear power plant, from investment case and funding, to construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance and decommissioning.



The SZC construction programme has a technical and commercial business case predicated on technical replication of Hinkley Point C. EDF will be an important supplier of nuclear capability for the SZC Programme from its established nuclear business footprint in the UK.

What you'll be doing



Principal Accountabilities, Activities and Decisions:


Support production of estimates in accordance with the SZC policies and procedures. Review SZC's drawings and specifications to prepare accurate costing sheets for materials, labour and equipment Oversee and/or interrogate design options and 'value' solutions, and if appropriate, identify the attractiveness of a project based on sound estimating principles. Code and develop pricing in accordance with coding conventions set up on the project. Record assumptions and identify risks and opportunities including supporting developing the risk evaluation from a pricing/budgetary point of view. Liaise with members of the project team & supply chain to develop and understand methodologies and principles proposed. Develop from first principles labour, plant material, subcontract pricing within the Contractor's Estimating Software Candy. Develop or check bills of quantities used to present alliance pricing using the Alliance's quantification Software Cost X. Support recording and tracking change to the estimate / budget as the estimate inputs mature

Essential


Proficient in the use of excel and similar software. Excellent client facing/communications skills

Desirable


Experienced estimating background using Candy Estimating Software. Experienced estimating background using RIB Cost X Quantification & Estimating Software. Experience of working with the AACE principles of Estimating Class and associated maturity Mobile and flexible

Qualifications & Experience





Essential


Commercial or operational background considered.

Desirable


Infrastructure Main Contractor background ideally in the rail civil engineering market. Working towards being chartered by relevant industry recognised chartership e.g., ICE, CICES, RICS, CIOB Etc
