Brief Description
The mission statement of the Geotechnics Asset Management Teams is to \xe2\x80\x9c(i) predict where failures may occur, (ii) prevent failures from affecting safety or performance, and (iii) respond to failures as they occur to help minimise safety risk or performance impact\xe2\x80\x9d. Earthworks Examinations are one of the building blocks of good earthworks asset management and bringing examiners in house is designed to help us improve how we plan, deliver and manage the outputs from these examinations in order to improve our asset management, and ultimately, prevent landslides.
This is a really exciting opportunity to join us in the Eastern Region in one of a number of roles of Asset Engineer (Geotechnics) [Examinations] where you will, of course, spend much of your time out on the ground walking up and down slopes and examining earthworks. However, in addition you will become an integral part of the Asset Management Team through supporting the delivery of maintenance and refurbishment workbanks, responding to incidents and dealing with queries from neighbours or other Network Rail teams.
About the role (External)
Role and Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
1. Support the planning of the examination workbank to manage risk and compliance in accordance with Network Rail Standards.
2. Carry out earthworks examinations in line with Network Rail Standards. Support the completion of risk assessments where examinations go non compliant.
3. Support the planning and delivery of outside party slope inspections in line with Network Rail Standards.
4. Provide engineering input to the standards and specifications for earthworks examinations.
5. Maintain comprehensive and accurate asset records.
6. Support the implementation and management of monitoring systems.
7. Specify and instruct reactive \xe2\x80\x9cminor works\xe2\x80\x9d maintenance and refurbishment activities in response to issues identified during examinations or non compliant risk assessments.
8. Provide support to the Geotechnical Maintenance teams in building and managing maintenance and refurbishment workbanks including writing remits, and visiting sites both during and after works.
9. Support the monitoring of trends arising from examinations and evaluations, assessments, asset capability and failure precursors and confirm that action is specified and taken and participate in investigations of incidents.
10. Liaise with community relations to support the resolution of geotechnical issues impacting on neighbours and third parties.
11. Support the team in responding to incidents.
Essential
\xc2\xb7 HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent geotechnical qualification

\xc2\xb7 Sound knowledge of the relevant technical, safety and performance standards

What will the new Examination Teams look like?
There are two separate Geotechnical Route Engineer teams, one in the \xe2\x80\x9cnorth\xe2\x80\x9d looking after the East Coast and North & East Routes, and one in the \xe2\x80\x9csouth\xe2\x80\x9d looking after the East Midlands and Anglia Routes. Each of these RE(G) teams will have a separate Earthwork Examination Team made up of the Examination Senior Asset Engineer who will lead their team of 6 No. Asset Engineers and 1 No. Assistant Asset Engineer.
