Statement of Duties and Responsibilities



Reporting to: Head of Art & Ceramics and Headmaster



Cumnor House Sussex is looking for an inspirational and highly motivated Art Technician to join our Art Department. Overarching responsibilities:

In this role you will assist the Head of Art and Ceramics, preparing and assembling routine art materials, supporting the Head of Art with various tasks.

Principal Duties:



Assist in preparing and assembling routine art materials Assist in preparing material for walls and other displays Keeping pupils worked filed and maintained Assist in keeping the art room, books, apparatus and supplies clean and tidy Assist with loading and unloading the kiln, and with preparation for clay modelling

Supervision of pupils:



Assist with maintaining good order and discipline among the children and safeguard their health and safety in accordance with the School's policies; Be aware of individual dietary and medical needs, including allergies, and of the procedures in case of emergency; Ensure your own Safeguarding and other required staff training is maintained and up to date.

General:



Set a good example to pupils by appropriate dress, conduct and punctuality; Be a role model for pupils, inspiring them to be actively interested in art; Inspire students to look at, learn about and create art beyond lessons; Attend School Inset days and participate in arrangements for staff training, including Safeguarding Training;

Desirable Personal Qualities and Experience:



Degree, HND, or Foundation Diploma in Fine Art, Art & Design, Textiles, or a related field. Prior experience working in a school or with children in an art-based role. Ability to support learning by providing relevant insights into artists and artistic movements. Knowledge of working with clay, wire, and mixed-media sculpting techniques. Ability to work autonomously, take responsibility for tasks, and proactively improve the efficiency of the department. Ability to assist in setting up projects and finding creative solutions to technical challenges. Competent using the computer, printer, and photographic equipment (including storage, filing and uploading images, scans and copies) Stock taking, monitoring equipment and reordering supplies. A no-task-too-small attitude, sharing duties of cleaning artistic equipment thoroughly including brushes, paint pots, palettes. Flexibility to work after hours and overtime in preparation for deadlines/exhibitions/open days. Competent using a sewing machine, with knowledge of how to re-thread and maintain them. Willingness to learn new artistic techniques and work with new mediums.

Hours of Work



Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 08.00 to 17.00

during term time with 30 minutes for lunch. This is a term time only contract. Flexibility to work after hours and overtime in preparation for deadlines/exhibitions/open days.
