The Airport Manager is responsible for the efficient, safe, and compliant operation of Perth Airport. This role involves managing staff, overseeing airside operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and service. The Airport Manager will be instrumental in coordinating airport activities, particularly in times of disruption or emergency, and will act as the key point of contact with regulatory bodies and airfield stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance & Safety Oversight
Manage airport staff and resources to ensure compliance with the Airport Manual, CAP168, CAP642, CAP748 and the conditions of the airport licence.
Maintain airside safety standards and ensure all operational practices meet statutory and recommended requirements.
Assess and control wildlife strike risk in accordance with CAP 772.
Responsible for the supervision and operational oversight of Radio Operators.
Operational Coordination
Ensure the safe and continuous operation of aircraft movements by liaising effectively with all parties, especially during adverse weather, equipment failures, emergencies, and other disruptions.
Prepare and distribute operational and aviation information to all airport users, ensuring aeronautical publications, local orders, and the airport manual are current and accurate.
Emergency Response & Incident Management
Co-ordinate and supervise airport resources during emergency incidents.
Ensure compliance with emergency response protocols and participate in ongoing emergency preparedness planning.
Notify spillages and environmental issues in accordance with procedures.
Airside Management & Control
Oversee and control the movement area, airfield works programmes, and obstruction safeguarding to ensure they meet all applicable regulations.
Supervise airfield maintenance and ensure it is performed to regulatory and operational standards.
Maintenance Oversight
Oversee all electrical and general maintenance work on the airfield to ensure safety, functionality, and compliance.
Ensure routine grass cutting and vegetation control are carried out to maintain clear sightlines, reduce wildlife hazards, and support airfield safety.
Monitor and coordinate airfield lighting inspections, ensuring timely repairs and replacements to maintain full operational capability, especially during low-visibility and night-time operations.
Leadership & Delegation
Lead and support airfield operations staff, ensuring a senior team member is always present during licensed flying activities.
Delegate daily operational responsibilities in their absence to designated senior staff members, ensuring continuity of operations.
Maintain up-to-date and compliant training records for all airport staff
Qualifications and Experience:
Extensive knowledge of airport operations, CAP168, CAP642, CAP748 and other relevant aviation regulatory frameworks.
Experience in airfield safety, emergency response coordination, and airside operations.
Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to manage teams and delegate effectively.
Excellent communication and coordination skills for engaging with external agencies and stakeholders.
Technical understanding of maintenance operations, including electrical systems and infrastructure.
Outstanding organizational and leadership skills.
Problem-solving aptitude.
Additional Requirements:
Flexibility to be on-call or respond to emergencies outside regular hours.
A valid UK driving licence and ability to obtain airside driving certification.
Relevant professional qualifications or training in airside safety, airport operations, or emergency planning are desirable.
