Job description

We are looking for someone to join the Environment Agency\'s Slurry Infrastructure Grant National Assurance Team as an Advisor on a fixed term basis until the end of March 2025.

We are a small national team working with Environment Agency colleagues and partners in the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), Rural Payments Agency, and Natural England to deliver the Slurry Infrastructure Grant. We do this by assessing grant applications against relevant legislation and scheme requirements. The role will focus on providing technical leadership and advice to Grant Delivery Officers in the team and carrying out assessment of complex applications. It may involve providing expertise and evidence to aid development of future rounds of the grant and contribute to design and delivery of future agriculture policy by the wider Environment Agency Agriculture Team and Defra.

The team

We are equally passionate about the environment and agriculture, and we work hard alongside colleagues and partners to deliver outcomes and better regulation for both. We are equally passionate about our people and aim to foster a welcoming, caring, and rewarding environment where everyone knows their value is recognised and can bring their full selves to work. Though dispersed across the country, we take time to develop rewarding working relationships through joint learning and experience.

Experience/skills required

We are looking for someone with in-depth knowledge of agricultural regulation relating to slurry management, particularly The Water Resources (Control of Pollution) (Silage, Slurry & Agricultural Fuel Oil) (England) Regulations 2010 (SSAFO). Experience of using the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Boards (AHDB\'s) Slurry Wizard and broader knowledge of organic manure management, farming systems and the farming sector is needed.

The role will require the ability to:

  • make risk-based decisions backed up by documented evidence
  • develop and maintain relationships with internal and external partners
  • evaluate complex data sets
  • develop clear and comprehensive guidance to aid process delivery
  • monitor and report on delivery against approved targets
  • carry out assurance and continual improvement of assessment processes
  • communicate complex regulatory and assessment information
  • identify and highlight reputational risks and political sensitivities
Contact and additional information

As the role is desk based and the team dispersed you can work from any Environment Agency office, subject to capacity, and combine this with working flexibly from home. We are dedicated to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share, please include any information about your favoured working arrangements on your application. Infrequent travel to other locations including other Environment Agency offices may be required as part of the role. Do not submit a CV or covering letter with this application. To arrange an informal discussion about the role please contact Josh Tinsley, Slurry Infrastructure Grant Delivery Manager - josh.tinsley@environment-agency.gov.uk.
