Job Summary:
The purpose of the Activity Co-ordinator is to plan and deliver a range of engaging and diverse activities to promote the physical, psychological and spiritual well-being of our residents. This includes creating a stimulating environment, foster social interaction, and support residents in developing or maintaining their hobbies and skills, as well as creating a range of stimulating activities, inclusive of all residents, but also acknowledging the individual needs of each person.
Key Responsibilities:
To have a good understanding of the residents' needs, to enable you to develop a meaningful social care plan for each person, by having knowledge of an individual's abilities, life history, desires and preferences.
To plan, co-ordinate and deliver an inspiring and diverse programme of activities, then advertising these throughout the Home.
To be creative in designing new activities and adjusting these where necessary to suit the needs of the individual.
To use a range of resources to enhance the environment, particularly for special events and occasions, as well as celebrating each person's birthday and making it special, etc.
To search for, book and organise meaningful outside entertainment that will engage and enhance the well-being of the residents.
To be sympathetic to the Christian ethos of Eckling Grange, working alongside the in-house Pastors.
To be able to use a range of IT, being able to set up the PA system when needed and download photos, etc., for displays and other media projects.
To empower the care staff to be involved as appropriate, providing them with inspirational resources and ideas for them to use.
To motivate the residents with a friendly and positive attitude, encouraging them where appropriate to engage in activities, whether in a group or individually.
To work with volunteers as required and allocate activities according to the volunteer policy.
To be able to analyse situations, adapt the programme as required and adopt a suitable course of action as needed.
To incorporate everyday activities for the residents into the programme, such as laying tables, dusting, folding clean laundry, etc. where appropriate.
To involve residents in social events organised by the local community and also to involve the local community within the Home.
To allocate time to work with residents on an individual basis.
To allocate time for taking residents outside in the gardens or elsewhere as appropriate.
To arrange suitable outings and accompany residents to go on trips in our minibus, adhering to the risk assessments for this purpose.
To be able to manage your time effectively.
To assist and support residents at mealtimes, as required.
To be aware of the residents' spiritual needs and encourage them to attend services, etc., as appropriate.
To liaise with the care team every day to aid good communication.
To meet with the Management Team on a regular basis to evaluate and assess the effectiveness of the programme.
To document all relevant information on the digital care system, in order to keep accurate records of all activities undertaken by each individual.
To be flexible in your working pattern to fit in with the needs of the Home; this may mean working some evenings and weekends, as required.
To keep the activities cupboard tidy, replacing stock as required.
To maintain high standards of infection prevention and control within the home.
To undertake training as appropriate to enhance relevant knowledge and skills.
You would be encouraged to develop the job role, making it your own, having your own ideas, creativity and inspirations, in agreement with Management. Provide personal care in a way that promotes independence, dignity, privacy choice and wellbeing.
