Periscope is a family-run accountancy practice which started in 2001, based in Adderbury, Oxfordshire. Our team is made up of smart, passionate, and genuinely caring individuals dedicated to supporting our clients.

The role

We're looking for a confident, capable Accountant with a minimum of 3 years' experience in practice to join our team.

You'll be responsible for preparing year-end accounts, company and personal tax returns, and supporting clients with advice and queries. This role involves close collaboration with our bookkeeping team and provides an opportunity to build strong, trusted relationships with a portfolio of small business clients.

We're looking for someone who's not just technically strong, but also proactive, personable, and keen to grow with us as we continue to evolve the way we serve clients.

Key responsibilities

Accounts preparation

: Prepare year-end accounts for limited companies, sole traders, and some partnerships.

Tax returns

: Prepare corporation tax and self-assessment tax returns.

Client management

: Build great relationships with clients and become their go-to for advice.

Review work

: Check bookkeeping and VAT work prepared by colleagues as part of your review and accounts prep process.

Management accounts

: Prepare monthly or quarterly management accounts as required.

Problem solving

: Identify issues and provide clients with practical solutions and support.

Compliance

: Ensure work complies with relevant accounting standards and tax legislation.

Team collaboration

: Work closely with other team members and provide training when needed.

Requirements

Experience

: Minimum of 3 years' experience in an accountancy practice (essential).

Accounting knowledge

: Strong understanding of accounting principles, UK tax, VAT, and CIS.

Qualifications

: ACCA, ACA, or AAT qualified (or qualified by experience).

Communication skills

: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a friendly and professional manner.

Time management

: Ability to meet deadlines, prioritise tasks effectively and manage workflow.

Software

: Experience with Xero (essential). Sage and Dext (preferred but not essential if you're keen to learn). We use Digita for accounts production and tax return preparation.Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Driving licence

: Full UK driving licence.
